When our grandparents homesteaded on the
prairies of Nebraska, wildlife was abundant and provided meat
for their diets. Our parents were farmers, who liked to hunt
with their siblings for a treat in the Fall. When we became
farmers, we only hunted as a social outing with friends, but we
decided to take advantage of programs to provide habitat for
wildlife, as well as, promote soil conservation. When we decided
to establish Nature's Rural Retreat in 2007, it was with the
purpose of providing lodging for hunters and other nature
lovers. The restoration of the 1930's farmhouse and landscaping
of the yard were done to attract and provide viewing of
wildlife. We have done so well that quail, pheasants and deer
come into our front yard. We became members of Quail and
Pheasants Forever to promote our business and work with hunters,
who are also interested in wildlife habitat and propagation. In
2012, we decided to take over Great Nebraska Hunting from Arlo
Schurr, who had operated it for six years. We are looking
forward to this new business adventure catering to sportspeople
whose goals are similar to ours.
